I never realized that making your own bread was a fast and easy Saturday morning thing. Try it once and you'll be doing it forever. I like to make my own pizza on Saturday night so I make sure that I have individual pizza crusts in the freezer so we can just grab one and throw whatever we like on top. It's faster than ordering out and you can control your fat intake by using low fat cheese and roasted vegetables instead of high fat pepperoni. While we're making the pizza crusts we make baguettes with the same dough. These freeze really well too and make the perfect accompaniment for soups, stew and dinner salads.
My little sister would call muffins "open the fridge and chew food". At my house, muffins are a staple food. I always
make them in double batches and freeze some. They are a fast breakfast food and a quick bread alternative at lunch. The kids love them for snack after school and if you use whole-wheat flour, you can
call them your carbohydrate fix before you work out.
This section also includes loaf-type cakes. I can't seem to get the hang of calling something rectangular and baked in a loaf pan, a
cake. I also wouldn't serve them for dessert... they're more suited for coffee breaks and party foods, so... here they are. (Just in case you were looking).
